Parenting & Professional Resources are available through your Ontario Early Years Program to support you in your role as a parent, caregiver or professional. You are invited to speak with our caring professional staff about your parenting challenges and concerns. You will be supported with our services and resources or referred to other community partners that will best meet the needs of your family.

You can ask about the following Parenting & Professional Resources:

  • Triple P Parenting
As we all know, kids don't come with an instruction manual, so chances are you're looking for practical help with some common parenting problems. Whatever your parenting need, no matter how simple or complex. Triple P has the information, tip sheet, book, DVD, seminar, course or practitioner to help you.
  • Children's story books, music CD's, computer games, and backpacks
You can borrow from a wide selection of age-appropriate resources that will enrich your child's learning experience at home. This service is free.
  • Parenting Resource/Reference books and video/DVD's
You can borrow the latest in resources exploring a range of topics including child development, health and safety, child behaviour, parenting strategies, pregnancy, children with special needs and more. This service is free.
  • Print materials - tip sheets, brochures, and booklets
You can ask for a copy of a helpful parent-friendly information sheet to read about a topic of interest or a specific issue. Booklets, pamphlets and brochures are available on a variety of topics and services to keep you informed. This service is free.
  • Parenting workshops, seminars, and courses
You can participate in a variety of programs to enhance your parenting skills and broaden your knowledge of topics related to caring for young children. Programs facilitated by trained professionals vary in length and content to meet your needs. These programs may be offered at different locations in your community. These programs are free and childcare may be available.
  • Child Care Conference
You can register to attend our dynamic annual child care conference. This Saturday conference in November offers you an opportunity to hear a special guest speaker, attend two workshops, network with peers and develop your skills as a professional. There is a minimal fee to attend.
  • Newsletters
You can access our monthly agency newsletter on-line or ask for a copy when you visit any of our programs. Newsletters keep you informed and up to date on events, activities and strategies related to caring for your child.

Kindergarten Readiness Programs

Kindergarten Readiness Programs and workshops for parents are offered throughout the year. Our early childhood educators partner with elementary teachers to provide a variety of curriculum activities at the South Hastings-Prince Edward Ontario Early Years Centre. Children are involved in science, music & movement, drama, creative arts, and literacy experiences.

Kindergarten...Ready or Not, Here I Come is a workshop and resource kit for parents with children beginning school for the first time. Our early literacy specialist partners with individual schools to provide this workshop, resources and participation in kindergarten orientations at the school as requested. Workshops are also offered to parents in the community.
